On Monday Z's school celebrated Grandparent's Day by inviting the grandparents to eat with the students. I waited until the day before to tell Z that Mimi and Pappasito would be joining him for lunch. He was excited to see them. A, however, was sad that his school didn't have a Grandparent's lunch too. I told him not to worry, he would see them after school that day.
In typical Z fashion, the minute he saw us waiting in the hall for him, he started jumping up and down saying, "Mimi!! Pappasito!!". I think he's supposed to walk silently in line. Sometimes it's hard to contain that excitement. ;)
So we sat and had lunch with him in the cafeteria. He was more interested in playing with his friend, but I think he was glad we ate with him.

After lunch all the students have to walk a lap around the playground for a little exercise. I was ready to walk with him, but the trail was covered with gravel and if J had any teeth I think the walk would have rattled them out. Instead, I opted to wait for them to do the lap.
Then it was play time!! Z had the best time playing tag with Pappasito. The entire first grade was on the playground so it was fairly easy for Pappasito to sneak up on him. It probably helped that Mimi was distracting Z and I was pointing in the opposite direction when he asked me where Pappasito went. :) Aside from the fact that it was so muggy you could cut the air with a knife, we all had fun at recess.
When Z got home from school that day Mimi and Pappasito had not left yet. As they were saying their good-byes one of them said, "Z, thanks for inviting us to your Grandparent's lunch." Promptly, without skipping a beat he said, "I didn't." Huh. I guess next year I should have him do the inviting...wonder if they'll come. :)
