Apple and Tree

Ok.  So the ol' "apple doesn't fall far from the tree" saying.  Yeah, it's true.

Last night the boys were less than thrilled with dinner.  BBQ pork chops, grilled summer veggies and quinoa.  Not a little boy's dream meal, but healthy.  Z, as always, ate with very little unhappiness.  Mr. A tried to drown his veggies in Ranch.  When that didn't work, he gave up and said he was skipping dessert.  Fine.  Little J played with his silverware, dropped his fork and spoon which resulted in needing new ones, flung his quinoa all around the table and drank his milk then played with the cup.

When Z busted the ice cream and sprinkles out J's little eyes lit up because he was ready for some too.  Not so fast kiddo!  No meat or veggies, no ice cream or sprinkles.  Oh the horror!!  He was NOT happy.  I told him he had to eat four pieces of meat and three veggies.  Well that seemed to satisfy him and off he went happily chewing a piece of meat.  Two minutes later the piece of meat came out in a chewed up piece of shredded, gooey mess.  He did his usual shudder and said, "It's too spicy!"  Not the word I would have used to describe the honey bbq sauce but fine, I get it.  After a bit more back and forth and attempted negotiation, Mama couldn't take it any more and walked away.

A while later he found me claiming he ate all his meat and veggies.  Sure enough...his plate showed he'd eaten all the meat...extra meat in place of veggies.  Just as I was telling him what a good job he did and cleared his plate, I reached for his cup.  Remember the empty one?  I lifted it up and hiding underneath the upside down cup...his meat.  Every.  Last.  Piece.

So the ol' apple tried to pull the hide your food trick.  The tree has yet to fill him in that it's better to use your napkin.

Ahhhh, we remember it well! Next he'll be falling asleep at the table next to his uneaten plate of food. ;)
