Tonight we hit another big milestone. He learned to ride his bike!
Last year he wanted to ride to school but we told him he had to learn to ride without training wheels hoping it would be a motivator. Eh. Not so much. Now that school has started he was at it again, wanting to ride his bike to school. Again, we told him we'd do it if he learned to ride without training wheels. Well it home this time. Wednesday night he was determined but once he got out there for the first time with only two wheels his determination faltered. We reminded him how long it took him to learn to snap his fingers and with practice his snaps got louder. He heard us but wasn't quite convinced. Unbeknownst to me, Daddy did a little research and learned a new method. He had him balancing with his legs out last night. He was wobbly but with a few minutes of practice, he got better and better.
Tonight we had this...

He had the biggest grin on his face! He rode circle after circle around the cul de sac, smiling the whole time. With each circle he pumped a little harder and went a little faster. I heard myself telling him, "Not too fast!" (We don't need a crash on the first day.) I wish I could get him to slow down not just on his bike, but in growing up too. Some days it just seems too fast.
Guess this means we'll be riding bikes to school soon...
