The first...but NOT the last

Yes. You are correct. That my friends is a black eye. Nice, huh?

M and I always say this kid really needs a crash helmet - at all times! If he's not running into something, he's tripping over something. So how did this happen you ask? Well, as one would expect it happened at the most inopportune time.

Monday we were leaving for Z's flag football practice. M was out of town, I was scrambling to get all the boys fed, changed, and ready to head out the door. I was doing awesome! We were ahead of schedule, we were on a roll, we were delayed...but still early!! Woo-hoo!! No sooner had the words, "Boys, grab your shoes" left my mouth then I heard A howling. I knew it was gonna be bad when he was having trouble getting the cries out. Super.

I rounded the corner to find him clutching his face. When his had moved away there it was...an instant swollen spot. I asked what happened and through tears and sobs I got, "IIII....hiiiiiit.....thhhhe....treeeeeeeeeee!" Nice.

See this, "inside tree", as he calls it? Well, if you're spinning and running through the house like you're on the playground and you loose your balance and go flying into it, it's gonna hurt!

Upon closer inspection of the "inside tree" you'll notice the base has corners.

Those corners make the point at which it hit your face swell up INSTANTLY. Then the next day you'll have a black eye. And the next day it will get a little darker. And repeat the previous step until it slowly fades. And your mommy will wonder how long it's going to take to go away. And she'll also wonder what the heck made you think that was a good idea. And then she'll sigh because she knows why. You're a boy. Duh.

At least it wasn't a black eye from a person! And Kalyn likes puffies too, but only if she can manage to get them in her mouth! She doesn't seem bothered when her hand clasping the puff goes in her mouth and the puff remains in her hand. We sure need a play date. (:

Oh my goodness - an inside tree, really? That is one for the scrapbook! Tell Austin he is one tough cookie, and we are very proud that he took it like a man!
