Last night as I was falling asleep, I was thinking about how much our lives have changed in just a matter of days. M has so much free time he doesn't know what to do with himself. The boys and I are adjusting to having him around more - which we are eating up.
As I lay there thinking, I replayed an event that made me giggle out loud again. Monday morning Z went into the kitchen to "help" M make coffee. I was half asleep in bed, just listening to their conversation.
"Daddy, can I have cookies?"
"No, we don't eat cookies for breakfast."
"But I really want cookies."
"I just told you that we don't eat them for breakfast."
"That makes my feel-lings."
"Well...(*sigh*)...sorry."
I could hear the exasperation in M's voice all the way from the other room. I just had to giggle. Here is my husband, rock hard under work pressure, thrives when he is under the gun to perform at school or save the day with a client, and our 4 year old had him speechless. I found it hilarious!
A few minutes later he came into the bedroom and sat on the bed next to me. My eyes were closed so he didn't know I had heard the whole thing. He said, "Sweetie, the coffee is almost ready." I opened my eyes and asked sweetly, "Can I have cookies?" You could see him processing what I had just said and he replied through clenched teeth, "We don't eat cookies for breakfast." I giggled and said, "But that makes my feeeel-lings!"
