Holy Guacamole! We had the busiest, craziest, most fun weekend we've had in a looong time. For weeks now we've been keeping a big secret from the boys. My sister wanted to go back to Great Wolf Lodge the minute we left over Christmas break. As any good business should, we received a deal we couldn't refuse and booked a night without telling the boys.
Thursday evening my sister drove up with the girls. When they rang the doorbell the boys were shocked, "It's T and K?!! What are they doing here?" The girls walked in with huge grins on their faces and broke the news..."We're going to Great Wolf Lodge!!" The boys were confused for a second, they didn't know if they should be excited or were the girls passing through on their way without them? T piped up and said, "We're all going!" I think the boys might have peed just a little from all their excitement. There was a lot of screaming, hugging and jumping up and down.
Friday morning we left bright and early so we could have as much of the day at the water park as possible. We arrived, checked in and hit the water park.
While the older kids played Magi Quest, J and I hung out in the arcade. He was perfectly happy jumping from game to game pretending to play and messing with all the buttons. Not a single quarter needed to keep this kid happy! Just make sure you were comfy shoes because he's a fast one!
Saturday night we drove back to our house for the evening. I rode in the girl car and it was a lovely, quiet ride home. The kids were promised a slumber party that night. I'm not sure how much "slumbering" they did but eventually it was quiet.
The next morning we were at it again. Time to rise and shine super bright and early so we could hit the kite festival before the crowds. This year the weather was perfect! It was one of those days where you just had to let go of the kite and hold on to your string because the wind would take it immediately.
The kids had standard kites and flying them was not a big deal. Tia Kim on the other hand brought this "kite".
What the heck is that little thing?! You know it's sad when even the kids scoff at it. Size matters and her little thing did not want to fly.
Then there was the kite that came with an instruction manual. Yeah, when it take two adults to put the thing together you know you might have issues. Poor Pappasito was so excited about his awesome kite but the thing did not want to fly. Big bummer!
After the festival we were hungry so we tried to eat at Uncle Joe's favorite restaurant but the wait was over an hour and at 2:00 this just was not okay for 5 hungry kids. We ended up eating at the place next door and it was still yummy.
By this point it's late afternoon and we've parted ways with my family. Up next on the Texas Tour? University Co-Op!
And the tower. This visit was extra special. 15 years ago to the day Matt proposed in this spot. Now we visit with our three healthy boys in tow. Thanks for the pic, Uncle Joe!!
All good things come to an end and it was time to take Uncle Joe to the airport. I'm not sure what more we could have fit into the weekend. Boys skipped school on Friday to drive to Dallas, back home on Saturday, kite festival Sunday with lunch and trip to the Co-Op. It was exhausting but totally worth every second!
