Back in the spring I went back and forth for weeks on whether or not to sigh J up for preschool. The older boys started when they were 3 so to start this little guy at 2 1/2 was giving me a major case of the guilts. I found the courage to go and talk to the director, then sat on it a bit more. After a lovely tantrum or four I decided we would both be happier if he went for a couple of days. But then when I went to sign him up they only had space in the three day program. My heart sank. I went ahead and put him on the list for the three day class. Guess what? He's doing great!!
Here's my "Pwe-school"er on his first day...
Mommy was totally fine the morning of his first day. I got him dressed, hyped up the day, had the biggest and cheesiest grin all morning for him but when it came time to put on his backpack my eyes welled up. My baby stood before me with his Thomas backpack and fire truck lunch box. His little chest puffed out he was so proud! I couldn't help myself...I sent him into M's office. He marched in there and proudly said, "Bye Daddy! I go to pwe-school." With my very own eyes I watched M plaster a smile on his face, eyes welling, and say, "Bye Poppy! Have a GREAT day!" And with that, J turned to walk out. M and I exchanged a look of disbelief just as I turned to follow J.
We drove to school, me chattering away and J holding tight to his backpack and lunch box. Once we arrived, he wanted he backpack on and grabbed his fire truck. He was going to do it just like brothers do every day.
That first day was a success! The next few days not so much. He cried at drop off. However, we're much better now. I have to reassure him at least half a dozen times that Mommy will be back. He always asks, "You be wight back?" And each time I say, "I'll be back when the fun is all finished!"
What hasn't grown old? The look on his face when I pick him up. His eyes widen, mouth drops open with a gasp and he runs up to me, takes a leap and I swing him into my arms. Those two little arms always wrap around my neck with a big squeeze and end with a juicy kiss on my cheek. Then he says, "You be wight back!!!"
