He's a big first grader now and is really coming into his own. He's funny and loves to laugh, even at himself, which I think is so important. He wakes up each day excited about life. Well, sometimes we have to drag him out of bed for school, but once he gets going he's excited. ;) He still LOVES to read. These days its Wimpy Kid books or the latest is Ook and Gluck. He can crunch numbers like his Daddy. I told him we were ordering 4 dozen pepperoni rolls for his party and without skipping a beat he said, "48 is a lot!!". As usual I found myself snorting a laugh because he amazes me with the math. He's still curious about everything. This week M was teaching the boys about the inner workings of the toilet. Not something I usually care about, but I guess it's because I'm a girl. And I'm not kidding. Two nights in a row they had the lid of the toilet off and were flushing it to see what goes on inside the tank. (Booorrring!) Today it's all about taking the computer case off and looking at the guts. Can't wait!
I diverged. Our biggest boy is awesome. He's more confident now that he's a big school kid but I still get glimmers of his sensitive side. Last night at church we gave them money to put in the basket on the altar. Z took off ahead of A and I was worried they wouldn't stick together. Sure enough, Z turned to find A, put his arm around him and kept it there until they came back to our pew. I was so proud!
So yesterday was his big party. We'd been talking about it for weeks. We went with a Nerf gun theme. I wasn't nervous about it until that morning...what if someone got hit in the eye!? It probably didn't help that we bought Z the biggest Nerf gun out there and it requires 6 D batteries. The Stampede. Yeah, we're awesome too.
So here we are with our birthday boy. Do I look nervous?
I'm not really sure who was more excited...Z, the birthday boy, or M, the "I'm still a boy". He was ready with his gun strapped to his back. Yes, he custom made his strap before the big shindig. And we couldn't forget the tattoo!
Once the kids arrived we turned them loose in the backyard. Thanks to Tia Tim and Uncle Mike, Z had the Nerf vest that could carry ammo AND his light saber! Again, I think Uncle Mike wanted to wear it but was kind enough to let Z wear his gift. :)
The kids were so excited to have M play with them. I was cracking up! He'd get shot and fall on the ground, hide behind our barriers, and at one point he hid in a tent and then the tent started walking across the yard. :)
A better look at the tattoo...

And A? He loved it too! He requested a smaller gun that his hands could handle. I love that he picked out the cool neon one. :) He also knew that he wanted his tattoo on his leg...so it would show.

Oh baby J. He hammed it up on the patio with Tia Tim's pink camo hat. Even he had a camo outfit! I'd bought it before we even planned this party. There was no shortage of love for this little guy.
Eventually we called a cease fire so we could eat...our 48 pepperoni rolls, fruit and salad (for the adults). Here are Z's party friends...
