Our Triathletes

As if the tri on Father's Day wasn't enough, these two decided to do another, looonger, Couple's Triathlon today. Here we go again.

As usual: boys out the door at 5:30, women and children out the door at 6:30. This time we had to leave really early to make it into the parking lot before the roads were closed off. So we made it in time to see the men before the festivities began. At this point I had brushed my teeth so I gave M a good luck kiss. :)

Luckily they were in the first heat of the race, Friends - Male category.

And I was able to get right up to the water's edge to get pictures. Kinda cool!

So the gun went off and it was pure mayhem in the water. My mom described it best: they all kinda looked like the fish in Finding Nemo when Nemo gets caught in the net with the hundreds of floundering fish. Total craziness in the water.

The boys are into racing so between the triathlons and the running races we know quite a few people in the athletic community. However today we ran into a familiar face that we love dearly, our "Fun Friend, Christine". She was volunteering today. So great to know she was around.

And she was right at the water's edge when the boys finished their 800 meter swim.

After the swim it was off to the almost 12 mile bike ride...on the hilliest course known to man.

It was hot out there - and we weren't even competing - but even the smallest cheerleaders hung in there.

Both boys finished strong. I was proud of both of them - my dad for keeping himself fit and doing these hard triathlons...
and my M for completing his very first sprint tri.

And here they are..."The Conquering Heroes".

After getting up at 6, driving to Decker Lake, cheering our brains out (8 times - each time we saw them), snacking and braving the heat...we all felt a little frazzled.

Thank goodness we weren't the ones competing. ;)
