Up and Down

Z's been on a health roller coaster for two weeks. It started the weekend of M's graduation. He had a low grade fever and for the next couple of days was a little down, but no fever. I sent him to school thinking I might get a phone call, but each day I picked him up he was just fine. Not much of an appetite at times but still playing like normal.

Last night he wilted on me. No fever, but he did the usual sick routine. When he's not feeling well he wants me to be close and sit with him. Then his ear started hurting - not a complaint that I had heard in the past two weeks - and I'd heard A LOT! So after blowing him off I thought it best to throw in the towel and take him to the doctor.

Today we woke up and I called the doctor right at 8. After making the appointment I doubted my decision because the boys were running through the living room chasing each other. Then they were racing their cars from room to room. When we got to the dr. office Z wanted to play with all the toys...anything but sit still. When the dr. came in the room I told her I wasn't sure what was going on but we'd been on a roller coaster for 2 weeks. Low grade fevers, loss of appetite at times, but racing our bike through the cul-de-sac, many complaints about his stomach, throat and finally the ear which brought us here.

She took a look in his ear and it was infected. Great! A trip not wasted! Then she listened to his chest. She didn't even make it to the back before she said, "He has pneumonia." WHHATTT?!?! You've got to be kidding me! The kid that is acting fine one minute and maybe a little sleepy the next?!?!

So now we're on antibiotics and all will be well. Not that we were doing horribly to begin with...
