The Great Wall of China

This was the excursion that saved us from feeling the earthquake. Monday morning we had to board the buses by 8 am for our trip to the Great Wall. Everyone was half asleep that day. It was our last full day together.

I am so glad that we got to see the wall. Was I blown away? Not really. I know that sounds terrible, but I wasn't as awed as I thought I'd be. Maybe fatigue had something to do with it.

The day was overcast and drizzly, not to mention a bit nippy. All that was forgotten as we climbed our way to the tallest peak. Clothes started coming off and cameras had to be briefly put away.

The climb was not the rough part. It was all the people!! We were jam packed climbing our way up to the top. Parts would open up, but then we were sardines again. And I must mention that not everyone had used deodorant that morning.

Here they are: The group that has conquered every assignment together for the last two years. This was their final group challenge...reaching the top of The Great Wall of China. It was a bittersweet moment.

And so the day ended. Little did we know that we had avoided the worst earthquake in years.
This last picture was taken after our climb to the top. We made it all the way to the farthest tower that day. Soooo fun!!
